about the lux & consumer trek
The Luxury & Consumer Trek is an annual international trek that the GSB Consumer & Retail Club hosts to explore a particular theme in luxury and consumer businesses. This year, we’ll be exploring the past, present, and future of luxury and consumer experiences on a 5-day trek to London and Paris in November 2019. The trek will typically consist of a group of 15-20 MBA1s, MBA2s, and MSX students with an interest in consumer and retail businesses.
What did luxury look like in the past and how has it changed today? How have heritage brands evolved to maintain their relevance in the digital age?
How are social media and data-driven technology shaping the consumer brand and retail landscape?
How are consumer expectations and tastes for high-end experiences evolving, and where are subsequent opportunities for brands and businesses?
Trek convenes in London on Sunday, November 24th, at 6pm
Trek ends with a Thanksgiving dinner in London on the evening of Thursday, November 28th
(Optional travel in London and Europe on the surrounding weekends)
Meetings with business leaders will begin on Monday
We’ll have 2-3 meetings each day, aiming to make them experiential where possible
We’ll take a day trip to Paris on Tuesday
We’ll have a Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday to end the trip
We will be meeting with business leaders across a variety of consumer and retail businesses. This year’s meeting list tentatively includes leaders at: Burberry, Hermes, LVMH, Diptyque, Space NK, Yoox/Net-A-Porter, Farfetch, Selfridges, Business of Fashion, Felix Capital, and McKinsey.
Trip deposit is $800
Total trip costs are estimated to be $1500
Costs include hotels, meals, and transportation during the trek only. Airfare to London is not included, and participants are responsible for booking their own flights.
